In 16th century, General Soun Hojyou kicked off the SENGOKU era (age of civil war) in Odawara. Since then, the Hojyou Family thrived for 100 years, 5 generations, and Odawara appeared on the historical stage. Odawara flourished as one of the most popular SHUKUBAMACHI(post stations) along the Tokaido way in the Edo era. Since the Meiji era, mansions and summer houses of barons, cultural figures and literary persons were built along the coast of the rich and bountiful Sagami Bay and the town has prospered. 500 years of history is waiting for your exploration.

You may encounter many diversified scenes while you walk around town. Odawara Castle will remind you of both the SENGOKU era and EDO era, the ITABASHI area makes you think of the TOKAIDO way, and SENDOKOUJI street is famous for KAMABOKO (Fish cake) and HIMONO (Dried fish) factories and shops all lined up.
